Do you think postcards are just for vacations? A postcard can be so much more. Postcards carry a lot of baggage from the days when they were the staple for vacation correspondence. We think of them as a beautiful photograph on the font and a blank slate on the back; a white box ready for a handwritten sentiment. The ease of postcards makes them a perfect marketing tool… No envelope to print! No envelope stuffing! Cheaper postage! They get read!

Of course staying in touch is important, however you want a return on your contact. Here are several ways a postcard can move from being a simple greeting to acting on behalf of your business. So, when is a postcard not a postcard? When it’s…

Postcard BackA Postcard Announcement. Announce events, sales, and special offers. New businesses can start their client database on an Excel spreadsheet on their PC and retail stores can jump start their customer database by having a guest book at the sales counter. Your front image can introduce you with a photo, a new product or your latest success! Why not send a map so customer can find you?!

A Postcard Appointment Reminder. Remind clients to make an appointment for a regular service… septic tank cleaning, car maintenance, tax review. Remind clients of a scheduled up-coming appointment. Got a clever idea for a payment reminder?

A Postcard Survey. Find out how you’re doing by sending a postcard survey. Retail stores can give the customer a survey postcard at the sales counter.

A Postcard Order Form. If you have a mail order business you want the orders to roll in. As an example, I urge all self-publishing authors to have a postcard order form with their book cover on the front–every mailing becomes a sales opportunity!
